OUR THEORY is a collaboration between Wax Poetic founder Ilhan Ersahin; the same band’s contributors, guitarist Thor Madsen and drummer Jochen Rueckert; and French drum and bass/jazz fusion trumpeter Erik Truffaz. Along with bassist Matt Penman, they come together to make a record that stands as a statement.

Our Theory shows reverence for the past, having been recorded in a live session entirely, just as the golden age jazz records of the 50s and 60s. The homage to the past, though, is then augmented with the future: Samples from turntables are slipped between loops and cut-up pieces of the original sessions that the five musicians recorded together.  The result is a new take on not just jazz—but music.  It is Our Theory, an album that hints at Miles Davis’ In A Silent Way while simultaneously alluding to influences of Skalpel and Triosk with Jan Jelinek.
